Ven. Prof Osamwonyi is a Professor of Finance whose academic qualifications include B.Sc. Business Administration 1978 [ABU, Zaria], M.Sc. Economics (1981) [University of Benin], Ph.D Economics 1984 [University of Benin], Post Graduate Diploma with Distinction (1988) & Advanced Post Graduate Diploma with Distinction (1991) [Housing, Planning & Building] Institute of Urban and Housing Development, Rotterdam. He also has a Diploma in Theology 2005 [Ezekiel College of Theology, Ekpoma]. He is a Central Bank of Nigeria certified Trainer of Microfinance Bank Operators [2010], and NDIC Trained the Trainer for DIS courses [2015 and 2017].

His professional working experience covers decades in banking and finance, mortgage finance practice, teaching, consultancy and research. He has held numerous positions in the University system including Head, Department of Banking & Finance, and Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences. He has been teaching with the Dept. of Banking & Finance, University of Benin, Benin City, from August 2001 till date. From 2004 to 2012, he was a Visiting Professor in Financial Economics on the Collaborative PhD programme of African Economic Research Consortium, Nairobi, Kenya. He has been an external examiner to various institutions, both local and foreign. Before his University of Benin appointment he taught at Igbinedion University, where he held various appointments, including Head of Department of Business Administration, and later Ag. Dean, College of Arts & Social Sciences. Between 1994 and 2000 he was the Managing Director/ Management Consultant, Osatech Consulting, Kaduna. Between 1991 and 1994, he was the General Manager/Chief Executive of Happy Home Savings & Loans Limited. Prior to that, he was the Senior Manager and Head, Research and Planning, Federal Mortgage Bank (1983-1991). After teaching in many other institutions. His professional affiliations include membership of the Nigerian Economic Society, Nigerian Institute of Management, Chartered Institute of Bankers, and the Academy of Management Nigeria, where he is a Fellow. He has done extensive consultancy, especially for the private sector in housing, finance and urban development, as well as for the capital market. He was the Chairman of The Nigerian Private Sector Committee on Implementation of Mortgage-Backed Securities in Nigeria; Member, Capital Market sub-committee on special products. He is a Venerable/Archdeacon of the Anglican Church, Benin Diocese, and current Vicar of All Souls’ Anglican Church, GRA.

He has authored many books and co – authored four books and over a hundred journal articles. He has supervised about 40 doctoral dissertations (in Finance, Operations Research, Management, Economics and Accounting), and numerous MBA and M.Sc. theses. He has assessed over 15 professorial candidates for both local and foreign universities. He teaches in the Ph.D programmes of both Business Administration and Finance, M.Sc. in various functional areas of Management, MBA, Masters in Banking & Finance, MSc Accounting, as well as undergraduate programmes. He has held chairmanship of various Boards and Committees at the University. He has edited many journals including Security Market Journal of Securities & Exchange Commission, Journal of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Federal Mortgage Bank Journal and Statistical Review, Nigeria Journal of Business Administration, Management Sciences Review, EKSU Journal of the Management Scientists, and Accounting Journal of the Department of Accounting. Membership of Editorial Board of the International Journal of Financial Research, Sciedu Press. Toronto, Canada; and Editor till date, Finance & Banking Review.

He holds the membership of Council, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, and he is the current Chairman, UNIBEN Micro Finance Bank. Areas of interest and experience are hardcore Finance, Quantitative Analysis, and Economics. He is married with children.
