Professor of Environmental Science (Hydrobiology/Fisheries & Pollution Studies) B.Sc., M.Sc. (Benin), Post-Graduate Cert. in Environmental Educ. (Strathclyde), Ph.D. (Benin) Anthony Ekata Ogbeibu is a Professor of Environmental Science (Hydrobiology/Fisheries & Pollution Studies) in the Department of Animal & Environmental Biology, University of Benin, Nigeria. He received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Zoology (Hydrobiology/Fisheries) from the University of Benin, Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Education from the University of Strathclyde, and specialist training in Applied Environmental Education in Windhoek, Namibia.
He has been imparting knowledge in the University of Benin since 1990 and serving the society in research design, biostatistical analysis and environmental consultancy. He has served the University of Benin, Professional Organizations, the Government of Edo State, National Universities Commission (NUC), the Oil and Gas industry and Non-governmental Organizations in various capacities such as Head of Department/ Chairman of Committees, Fellow, Director, Honourable Commissioner, Chairman of Accreditation Panels, and Technical Consultant on Health, Safety and Environment. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Tropical Freshwater Biology, an International Journal, and also on the Editorial Board of many local and international journals.
Prof. Ogbeibu is a Fellow of Freshwater Biology Association of Nigeria (FFBAN), Fellow of the Society for Environmental Toxiology and Pollution Migration (Fenv), Fellow of Occupational Safety and Health Association (FOSHA-UK) and a visiting Professor to the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, USA.
He is the current Director of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer (IPTTO), Vice Chancellor’s Office, University of Benin.
Prof. Ogbeibu is a recipient of numerous Awards/ Prizes, including the School Prize for overall best student in Emu Grammar School (1978), the Departmental Prize for the Best Student in Zoology (1983), Distinguished Alumnus Award by the University of Benin Alumni Association (UBAA) Worldwide, Students Union Government (SUG) Award of Honour for Academic Excellence, International Scholarship Award by World Council of Science Editors in Seattle, USA, and the Ambassador for Peace Award by the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (United Nations). He is a Knight of Saint Christopher (KSC) of the Anglican Communion and a Field Representative of Full Gospel Business Men Fellowship International (FGBMFI)
