The family, the community, and society seem to have abandoned their responsibilities to ensure strong educational foundation for their children.  Governments driven by politics of self-interest are fostering the fall of educational standards.  Regular regressive results in examinations have become the order of the day in an environment of paucity of trained teachers, and where mathematics and science teachers are scanty.  There is the consequent prevalent unemployment situation in the nation.  This book identifies the need for an urgent review of the National Policy on Education to take care of these deficiencies, and provide for a purpose-driven system of education.

The book points out that appropriate curricula and syllabi are potent instruments for achieving the goals of education to develop desirable citizenry.  It draws attention to the facts, significance, and the realities of educational development in Nigeria as vital for progressive national transformation.

THE AUTHOR

Chief Sam O. U. Igbe, MON, D. Litt (Honoris Causa), is a retired Commissioner of Police, a Nigerian Colonial Era Civil Servant, and a trained Colonial School Teacher.  A social purist and critic, he is a committed sports enthusiast.  He is a canny and passionate writer.
